Blockchain Data & Storytelling

DataInByte is an onchain adoption intelligence system that measures how blockchain products actually grow — activation, retention and drop-off rather than vanity metrics. Dashboards on Dune, written work on Substack, and placements in analytics competitions run by Flipside Crypto, Token Metrics and Dune.

Blockchains are unusual among data sources: everything is public, permanent, and addressable. In principle anyone can answer almost any question about what happened on-chain. In practice almost nobody does, because the raw data is enormous, badly shaped for human questions, and hostile to interpretation.

That gap — between data that is technically public and insight that is actually available — is where I work.

DataInByte

DataInByte is building an on-chain adoption intelligence system for understanding how Web3 products and ecosystems actually grow. By analysing user behaviour, activation, retention and drop-off, I use blockchain data to move past vanity metrics — views, followers, community size — and measure what real adoption looks like.

Dashboards are published openly on Dune, so the queries are inspectable and the figures reproducible rather than asserted.

Awards & analytics competitions

3rd Place — Intelligence-Driven Growth Analysis · Flipside Crypto A comparative Base vs Mantle growth study across 10M+ transactions, analysing activation patterns, periodic retention, economic activity and contract interaction distribution. It showed how each L2’s marketing strategy drove significant variation in adoption and engagement, despite the two chains sharing qualities within the same ecosystem.

4th Place — Solana Data-Driven Growth Analysis · Flipside Crypto Modelled Solana’s growth using five years of monthly activation cohorts and dApp interaction trends, revealing adoption accelerators and retention loops, and identifying the interaction patterns that explained long-term engagement growth across major protocols.

3rd Place — Crypto Analyst Bounty · Token Metrics Built a detection framework that flagged high-risk token behaviours using anomaly patterns and market irregularities, delivering insights that improved investor decision-making.

4th Place — Storytelling With Data · Dune Analytics Investigated a suspicious token and uncovered manipulative wallet patterns using DuneSQL, then produced an educational report that reached 500+ beginners.

Analysis work

SonicLabs Africa Community — On-chain Analyst & Research Lead, February 2025 to present. Analysed 180K+ SonicLabs transactions with SQL to surface core adoption drivers and shifts in user behaviour, and built Dune dashboards visualising daily and weekly growth trends.

SUI Blockchain Community — Tokenomics Analyst & Speaker, January 2025. Converted raw JSON into analysable datasets and built interactive Power BI and Tableau dashboards, then presented the tokenomics findings to an audience of 300+.

Solana Whale Activity Analysis — independent project, January 2025. Extracted and cleaned whale data to build address-level behavioural profiles, identifying key whale addresses and flagging manipulation patterns affecting price volatility and liquidity.

Crypto Portfolio Tracker — independent project, January 2025. A real-time tracker updating prices every 60 seconds via the CoinMarketCap API, with Excel automation that cut manual tracking time substantially.

The activation question

The thread running through all of it is the difference between arriving and staying.

Growth numbers in this industry are almost always acquisition numbers — how many new addresses appeared. That figure is easy to produce and easy to celebrate. The harder and more useful question is what those users did next, and whether they were ever really activated at all.

I set out the framework in Activation: Where Web3 Adoption Begins, and apply it across ecosystems — most extensively in the ongoing SEI analysis.

Writing & storytelling

Analysis that stays inside a dashboard changes nothing. Alongside the data work I have spent five years writing about Web3 — ghostwriting 100+ articles and 70+ threads, authoring whitepapers, and building the kind of explanation that turns a query result into something a person can act on.

I have also spoken on blockchain and analytics to audiences at the SUI Blockchain Community meetup (300+), Spella ICT Hub (200+) and the Redeem Youth Program (50).
